Lip augmentation or augmentation cheiloplasty is the technique that involves increasing the volume of the lips. It is especially aimed at people who, with age, the upper lip has become thin and flattened, losing its characteristic shape. Although the best known and practiced is lip augmentation cheiloplasty, there is also the opposite procedure, which consists in reducing the size of the lips, especially in patients who have suffered excessive increases with permanent substances.

Currently, and thanks to the evolution of techniques, lip augmentation can be performed in an authorized consultation. Only in some cases, this intervention is performed in an operating room inside a hospital. The most common techniques to perform a lip augmentation are those that use fat grafts, collagen implants or a hyaluronic acid compound. The duration of the cheiloplasty ranges from 10 to 15 minutes and is usually performed under topical or local anesthesia, depending on the patient and the surgeon’s preferences

The recovery is almost immediate and the results are appreciated at the moment. It should be noted that both collagen and hyaluronic acid are not permanent and are reabsorbed over time. In the case of collagen, it is necessary to repeat the action at six months, although if hyaluronic acid has been chosen, it may last for more than one year.
